Aug. 14, 2014 After my walk and seeing a bit of Carema, there was a group getting ready to take a trip up to Cervinia (Matterhorn in the Alps on the Italian side) and I am so glad I got to go along! About an hour's drive from Carema. What a gorgeous mountain and wonderful experience and a great day we all had. Arrived back at Carema about 6pm, just in time for supper. ☺

From Wikipedia: Cervinia lies at 2,006 m (6,581 ft) above sea level, at the foot of the Matterhorn (in Italian, Monte Cervino; in French, Mont Cervin), in a valley surrounded by high, glaciated mountains and the sheer rock face of the Jumeaux. It shares a ski area with Zermatt in Switzerland, connected through the Plateau Rosa glacier. Some of the runs are very long, the longest stretches 22 km from the Klein Matterhorn (in French, Petit Cervin) in Switzerland down to Valtournenche in Italy. Cervinia being one of Europe's highest ski resorts means low temperatures and good consistent snow fall, Skiing is nearly year round on the glacier. Temperatures get very cold through the winter months with daily averages being around -5 - -10 for the winter months and only about 8-10c in the summer months. This maintains the snow in great shape throughout the winter season. December usually averages round 40-50cm in resort and 140-160cm on the mountain, January approx 80cm and 200cm, February approx 90cm and 220cm, march 100cm and 240cm, april 60cm - 200cm.
Having lunch in the Village of Cervinia
Pasquale's head was getting hot from the direct sun. I noticed the UV's were really strong up this high. I have never seen my glasses turn so dark and stayed that way for a long time even after I got out of the sun.
Justin Matthews, recognize these folks ☺ Anne & Edwin Collins.
From Wikipedia: The fort of Bard (pronounced [bar] , in French fort de Bard ) is a fortified complex had rebuilt in the nineteenth century by the House of Savoy on the rock overlooking the village of Bard, in the Aosta Valley .
Next post, Carema convention Aug 16-18. Post 3 of 3
